After completing the Housing Application and Resident Agreement and paying the $100 Housing Deposit, students will be eligible for Room Selection. The timeline for selecting your room for the 2024-25 academic is listed below.
Resident Agreement 2024-25
Room Selection Timeline:

Friday, Jan. 19 |
|
Saturday, Jan. 20 & later | Residents requesting a single occupancy room January 20 and beyond must add their names to the wait list on the Good Living Portal. All people who submitted Resident Agreements by January 19 will be given first consideration. |
Friday, Feb. 2 | Applications received between December 4 and February 2 will participate in the first round of room selection on February 13 – 16. Only returning students participate in this process. |
Friday, Mar. 1 | Applications received between February 3 and March 1 will participate in the second round of room selection on March 19 – 21. New first time, transfer and readmit students begin to select spaces during this time period. |
Friday, Apr. 5 | Applications received between March 2 and April 5 will participate in the third round of room selection April 16 – 18. |
Friday, May 3 | Applications received between April 6 and May 3 will participate in the fourth round of room selection May 14 – 16. |
Saturday, May 4 & later | Applications received May 4 or later will be assigned by Residence Life staff. |
- The order for room selection is based on 1) when the Housing Application is submitted, 2) academic standing, and 3) having the $100 Housing Deposit on file (most returning students already have this). Students who have earned more credit hours and who complete the Housing Application more quickly are more likely to have their first choices.
- Res Life will assign spaces to students who submit Housing Applications but did not select their rooms during the designated times. Res Life will also assign students to spaces for applications received May 4 or later.

The Room Selection Process:
General Double Occupancy Room – available Until May 3
- Most students participate in this process.
- On the Friday before each Room Selection period, check your email or the Good Living Portal to find your designated times to select your space from the available options.
- Approximately 24 hours before Room Selection, check the Good Living Portal to preview available spaces and identify a few room options.
- Within your designated time frame, select your space using either the list or floor plan design (rooms shaded in green have available beds). Be sure to press “Submit.”
- Rooms are not held, so if you know where you want to live, please select the space.
- Once you have submitted selected your space, you will not be able to change it. You need to email ResidenceLife@shepherd.edu and requests will be reviewed after that room selection period ends.
- Students who do not identify as male or female are asked to call the Residence Life issue so that we can provide some additional access.
- When a housing style becomes full, students will be able to add their names to the wait list for consideration when a space becomes available in that location.
Roommate Requests:
- After you and your roommates/suitemates submit your Housing Applications, you can request each other as roommates on the Good Living Portal > Room & Roommate Selection > Select Roommates.
- All requested roommate(s) must have Housing Applications on file before you can select each other.
- Mutually requesting each other is important at least one week before room selection to make sure that you are placed together. If you are not linked, someone else may select a space within the room that one of you requests.
- If all roommates are linked to each other, then one person can select the space and the others will be automatically added.
Information about Single Occupancy Rooms
- Students who have a documented disability and are approved by the Office of Accessibility Services will receive priority for access to a single occupancy room. A specific location is not guaranteed.
- The University has offered 100 singles for 2024-25. Unfortunately, we are not be able to offer singles to everyone who requests them during room selection. Sometimes, additional spaces become available in late summer as people’s plans change.
- Residence Life has two wait lists:
- List A: All students who requested a single by January 19, but we were not able to offer a single during the first round of room selection. Residence Life will add these students to this wait list.
- List B: All students who completed their Housing Applications January 20 and later. This is These students must add themselves to the wait list on the Good Living Portal: Select the Room & Roommate Selection > Waiting Lists.
- Single occupancy room fees are higher than the fees for double occupancy rooms. See here for current costs that can be used for estimating purposes. An average 3-4% housing increase is anticipated for 2024-25.
- Being selected for a single occupancy room enables a resident to live in a room without a roommate. The specific location of the single room cannot be guaranteed.
