WISH offers funding for area nonprofits, Shepherd University groups

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WVNonprofit organizations and Shepherd University groups addressing critical community needs are invited to submit letters of inquiry to Women Investing in Shepherd (WISH) for WISH’s 2023 grant awards totaling $142,000. 

WISH will award two nonprofit grants of $35,500 each and two Shepherd University learning project grants of $35,500 each for the 2023 cycle. Qualifying nonprofit organizations must be designated 501 (c) (3) public charities. Shepherd organizations must be University-sanctioned to be eligible. Letters of inquiry are due by March 10. After reviewing the submissions, select organizations will be asked to submit a formal grant proposal. 

Nonprofits in the counties of Berkeley, Jefferson, Morgan, and Hampshire in West Virginia; Washington and Frederick in Maryland; and Clarke, Frederick, and Loudoun in Virginia are eligible to apply for grants.

In 2022, WISH awarded four grants totaling $127,500 collectively to community nonprofits Berkeley Senior Services and Shepherdstown Public Library, and to Shepherd University learning projects Department of Biology and the Campus Resource Scarcity Initiative. WISH reached a major milestone in 2022 by surpassing the $1 million high-impact grant funding mark with $1,011,500 raised since forming in 2014. 

WISH, a women’s giving circle made up of alumnae and community members, was created to educate, engage, and empower women to achieve their philanthropic goals.
