SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Veterans Support Services is sponsoring a free viewing of the documentary “Walk With Frank” on Thursday, November 11, at in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education. The documentary is the story of Frank Romeo’s 50-year journey, which began in 1968 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army to fight in the Vietnam War. Participants will meet Romeo at 12:30 p.m. followed by a screening of the documentary at 1 p.m.

Romeo was one of the first veterans to be diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In order to fully understand his own mental illness, he went back to Vietnam to study PTSD from the point of view of the former enemy, learning that while he was stuck in place, an entire country had moved on.

Romeo created a high school lesson plan students in the U.S. followed online, inspiring his current education program “The Experience of the American Soldier.” For his 70th birthday Romeo walked more than 750 miles across New York State to bring attention to PTSD and promote curriculum.
