SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Department of Sociology, Criminology, and Criminal Justice will present a lecture titled “Background Investigations and Law Enforcement Careers” with Sgt. Tyrone M. Bond II, U.S. Capitol Police, on Wednesday, September 16, at 1 p.m. via Zoom. The presentation is free and open to the public.
The U.S. Capitol Police protect the U.S. Capitol Building, members of Congress, and all who visit the capitol complex. During his lecture, Bond, who joined in 2001, will provide an overview of the department and review the updated hiring process for new officers.
“I’ve always had an interest in a career in public service,” Bond said. “I chose the U.S. Capitol Police because they offer several law enforcement career experiences and opportunities all within one department.”
Bond has served as a motor officer on the Capitol Police First Responders Unit and has protected leaders at various historical events, including the State of the Union address, lying in state and honor ceremonies, and presidential inaugurations. He has also served as an escort for many high-profile individuals visiting the Capitol, including the president and vice president of the United States and foreign leaders and dignitaries from different countries.
Bond is currently assigned to the Office of Background Investigations and Credentialing, where he serves as the recruiting programs manager responsible for developing programs and outreach efforts to locate the best-qualified applicants for the department.
