School of Music to host fall choir concert October 25

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Shepherd University Chamber Singers, Camerata Soprano/Alto Choir and Aries Tenor/Bass Choir, along with special guests, the Sherando High School Concert Choir, will present a Fall Choral Concert on Friday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Frank Center Theater.

The 46-member Sherando High School Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. A. Steve Jennings and accompanied by Connie Gallond, will open the evening with “Prayer” by René Clausen with text by Mother Teresa of Calcutta, “He’s Got the Whole World” by Ray Liebau, and an arrangement by Moses Hogan of “Ride On, King Jesus.” The Shepherd Camerata Soprano/Alto Choir, under the direction of Dr. Rachel Carlson, assistant professor of music, follows with works by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Pau Casals, Ivette Herryman Rodríguez, an arrangement by Shan-Hua Chien of a Taiwanese folksong, and “Maid on the Shore” arranged by Kathleen Allan.

The Aries Tenor/Bass Choir, under the direction of Dr. Robert Tudor, dean, College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, will present “If Ye Love Me” by Thomas Tallis and “The Sweet By and By” by Josephe P. Webster. A quintet, made up of Shepherd students will sing “Run to You” by Pentatonix.

The Shepherd Chamber Singers will perform works by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Ernani Aguiar, Samuel Barber, and Rosephanye Powell. Featured student conductors during the evening include Samantha Vaughn, Frederick, Maryland, Simone Reynolds, Suitland, Maryland, and William Miller, Smithsburg, Maryland.

Admission and seating for Shepherd’s Fall Choral Concert is on a first-come, first-served basis and advance sales or reservations are not available. The box office will open one hour prior to the performance. Admission is $15 for the general public; $10 for Shepherd employees and alumni, senior citizens, and students 18 and under; and free for Shepherd students with a valid Rambler ID.
