Community Music program to offer adult piano lessons; August 28 is the early bird registration deadline

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University is offering adult group piano lessons beginning Wednesday, September 11, in the Frank Center. The classes, with adjunct music professor Susan Petzold-Carpenter, are just for fun and offer a social, supportive atmosphere with no grades, deadlines, or recitals.

Tuition for the 10-week sessions, which run through November 13, is $120 for those who register before August 28 and $130 after August 28. Level I/II classes for those with no note-reading or keyboard experience and those with limited experience will take place from 5:30- 6:30 p.m. Level III classes for those with knowledge of treble clef and bass clef and some two-hand playing will run from 4:15-5:15 p.m. Grad school level classes for students with three previous levels of Adult Piano Fun or one to two years of piano lessons will take place from 6:45-7:45 p.m.

Petzold-Carpenter is listed in the “Who’s Who of American Woman, Millennium Edition” for her many contributions to the expatriate community as a teacher, performer, and concert series organizer during 13 years in Saudi Arabia. Petzold-Carpenter works as a collaborative musician in the tri-state area, having performed with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra and as a solo recitalist. She has adjudicated for the Maryland and West Virginia Music Teachers Associations, is an active member of the West Virginia Music Teachers Association, and has been granted the National Certification for Teacher of Music by Music Teachers National Association.
