SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Speak Story Series, part of Shepherd University’s Appalachian Studies Program, presents a special fundraiser on Sunday, February 10, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Shepherdstown Community Club featuring a concert with Emmy Award-winning storyteller Jim May and a discussion with May and Adam Booth, Shepherd adjunct professor and Speak Story Series founder. Admission is a minimum donation of $35. All attendees will become 2019 members of the Friends of Speak. Donations are tax-deductible.
The goal for the evening is to raise $3,500 to support the storytelling series and to give the audience an inside look at the creative process of storytelling. Refreshments will be provided by Carol Sanders, and Booth will also announce the complete 2019 season lineup.
May has been a full-time, freelance storyteller since 1986 and has told his original and traditional stories at festivals across the U.S., Europe, and Canada. A former teacher and counselor, he is a popular workshop leader and keynote speaker. His first collection of stories, The Farm on Nippersink Creek, a collection of family stories, won an American Public Library Association Best Book Award. His latest collection, Trail Guide for a Crooked Heart, a collection of inspirational stories and essays, won an Anne Izard Storyteller’s Choice Award, A Storytelling World Award, and Five Stars Readers Favorite.
