Rude Mechanicals to present plays April 5-7

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Rude Mechanicals Medieval and Renaissance Players will present three different programs of plays written by Shepherd creative writing students and a contemporary updating of a medieval play focusing on current social justice issues.

Performances will take place in Reynolds Hall on Thursday, March 30, 8:30 p.m.; Friday, March 31, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, April 1, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, April 2, 3 p.m.; Wednesday, April 5, 8:30 p.m.; Thursday, April 6, 8:30 p.m.; and Friday, April 7, 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $5, general admission; $2, Shepherd University faculty and staff; and free, Shepherd students with a valid Rambler ID.

The plays by Shepherd University students are “Incredible Indiscretions,” a campy murder mystery by senior Chace Jones; “femiNazi,” a feminist political satire by senior Allexandra Benedict; and a performance art play about love and death by senior Julia Athey.

The Rude Mechanicals have updated the 15th-century mystery play “The Woman Taken in Adultery” to focus on social justice issues involving race, the LGBTQ community, and women’s rights.

Shepherd students in the cast and crew are Vivian Alvarado, Mariella Avendano, Rachel Bearry-Sandstrom, Allexandra Benedict, Lyvon Campbell, Tessa Congo, Katie Fenley, Alex Hale, Ashley Hall, Bethany Kaetzel, TK Lindsay, Sophia Messenger, Deidre Morrison, Jessica Sharpless, Moriah Smith, Christina Taylor, and Emily Womeldorff.
