Rising LOVE to present ‘Vagina Monologues’ February 10 to 12

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Shepherd University student organization Rising Leaders Objecting to Violence and promoting Equity (Rising LOVE) is sponsoring the annual performance of “The Vagina Monologues” on Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, February 12, at 2 p.m. in Reynolds Hall. Tickets are $10 dollars for the public and $5 dollars for students.

“The Vagina Monologues” was written by Eve Ensler and debuted in 1996. The play explores various aspects of the feminine experience. Friday’s show will be followed by a discussion with the cast and representatives from the Shenandoah Women’s Center. Saturday evening’s show will be followed by an after-party at Domestic, 117 East German St.

The cast for the play includes Emily Foote, a sociology major from Shenandoah Junction; Amanda Spain, an early education major from Inwood; Gabby Hess, a political science major from Martinsburg; Marisha Carpenter, a political science major from Alderson; Daisy Thomas, an English major from Charleston; Molly Lovern, a biochemistry major from Bluefield; Blaise Marshall, a college student development graduate student from Meshoppen, Pennsylvania; Deirdre Morrison, a Shepherd alumna; and Ronnie Taylor, an office assistant in Student Affairs. Directors are Annie Lewin, Title IX and special projects coordinator, and LaShawn Tolson, graduate hall director.

Most of the proceeds from the play will benefit the Shenandoah Women’s Center, which provides help and resources to victims of sexual and domestic violence and their family members. Some proceed will also benefit Afghanistan Is Everywhere, a charity campaign dedicated to supporting grassroots efforts to protect exploited women laborers in Afghanistan.
