SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Federal employees, retirees, and government contractors can now give to the Shepherd University Foundation through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), which runs through December 15.
The CFC, begun in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy, gives federal employees an organized way to donate to their favorite charities. The CFC website says it is now the largest and most successful workplace fundraising campaign in the world, and over the past 50 years has raised $7 billion.
“The application process was competitive and the vetting process clearly ensures that only the most effective nonprofits are included,” said Monica Lingenfelter, Shepherd University Foundation executive vice president. “The Foundation and Shepherd University are honored to be accepted into this program.
“We know from experience that our Shepherd alumni and friends are caring people with a personal desire to support the university,” Lingenfelter added. “Being part of the CFC Campaign allows those who work with the federal government or the military to conveniently direct their gifts to Shepherd.”
The donated money will go into the Shepherd Fund, which supports a host of academic, cultural and sports activities on campus.
“The Shepherd Fund supports worthy students in need of financial assistance and also supports the work of the faculty,” said Diane Melby, vice president for advancement. “Gifts to the Shepherd Fund join with the gifts from the Shepherd community to change the lives of many and ensure that Shepherd students succeed.”
“It is my hope that the members of the illustrious federal workforce, who are also a part of our alumni, will be on the lookout for the Shepherd University Foundation Inc. during this year’s annual giving season,” said Shepherd President Suzanne Shipley.
The Shepherd University Foundation is included in the CFC for the Eastern Panhandle, National Capitol Area, and the Chesapeake Bay Area. Federal employees wanting to direct their CFC donations to the Shepherd University Foundation can visit www.cfcnca.org, find the Foundation (CFC # 23035), and make a donation.
