2020-2021 Academic Year New Staff

 Tavin Alatta was hired in July as parking coordinator for the Shepherd University Police Department.  Prior to her arrival at Shepherd, Ms. Alatta worked as a substitute teacher assistant in Berkeley County.  She previously served as a bus driver and substitute teacher/teacher assistant in Forestburg and Chamberlain, South Dakota.  Ms. Alatta has attended Western Governors University Online Campus, majoring in Elementary Education.

David Burdette joined the Facilities Management department in June as trades specialist I.  Mr. Burdette holds a Trade Certificate from Blue Ridge Community and Technical College and has attended Shepherd University.  For the past 15 years, he has owned and managed Welltown Home Improvement Service LLC, which is located in Martinsburg.  Mr. Burdette’s prior work experience includes stints as pressroom supervisor for Phoenix Color, press operator and back-up supervisor for World Color and pressman and press operator for The Journal.

Annette Butler was appointed in June as administrative assistant for Student Multicultural and Accessibility Services.  She holds a B.A. in Sociology from Shepherd.  A former U.S. Marine Corps sergeant, Ms. Butler’s prior experience also includes positions as administrative coordinator/receptionist for SciLucent and executive assistant for Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), both in Herndon, Virginia, and marketing assistant for Tarara Winery in Leesburg.

Jacquelyn Fluker is new to the Department of Contemporary Art and Theater where she will serve as Administrative Assistant.  Recently Ms. Fluker has worked at at Mom’s Organic Market where she helped manage multiple locations.  She also has been a bank teller for Provident Bank and has worked in customer service roles.  Jacquelyn has attended Shepherd University, Frederick Community College and Community College of Baltimore County, and she completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training.

Kayla Yost joined Shepherd in June as admissions counselor.  She holds an M.Ed. in Athletic Leadership and Administration from Goucher College and a B.A. in Psychology from Hiram College.  Ms. Yost previously held the position of women’s basketball assistant coach at Goucher College after working as a long-term substitute teacher for Baltimore County Public Schools.
