Upcoming Auditions
Directors’ One-Acts Auditions – February 26, 2025
Student directors Kayla Davis, Eric Edwards, El Lepp, and Sarah Ward are seeking up to nine female-identifying, eight male-identifying, and four actors of any gender for four full-length one act plays. Auditions will be held from 5-7pm on Wednesday, February the 26th, 2025. Auditionees who have an unavoidable conflict during that time period will be asked to email elepp01@rams.shepherd.edu.
Performances will be multiple dates from april 9th to 13th. Rehearsals will begin mid-march, and will be scheduled by each director, based on the needs of their cast.
Theater majors are expected to prepare a sixty second monologue of their choice in addition to providing a headshot and resume. Theater minors and other majors are encouraged to prepare a sixty second monologue of their choice. Selected readings will be provided.
No appointment is necessary. Actors will be seen in the order they arrive. All actors are encouraged to audition, regardless of age, race, gender, ability, &/or experience.

Director El Lepp is seeking three female presenting and one-to-two actors of any gender to act in the full-length one-act The Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing by Finegan Kruckemeyer. A whimsical yet raw fairytale, This Girl Laughs…explores how the world can harden and weather folks, but how love and connection refuse to be quelled.
characters:
Albienne: Female, many ages. A sister, and a daughter. She belongs to the world. When it comes to it, Albienne laughs and travels.
Beatrix: Female, many ages. A sister and a daughter. She belongs to the sun. When it comes to it, Beatrix cries and finds other people.
Carmen: Female, many ages. A sister and a daughter. She belongs to the weight of life. When it comes to it, Carmen stays put.
Narrator(s): Ageless and genderless. The weaver of the story. The framework of life.
Director Eric Edwards seeks two male identifying two Female identifying for the dark comedy Adam and Eve by Zonia Tsang, in which two humans who are forced onto Earth and have to decide if they want to get with God’s agenda or go back to non-existence.

Adam: is excited about life and anything is new to him.
Eve: is unimpressed with life and wants nothing to do with existence.
Tree: much like God, they are always there and very full of themselves.
God: much like Tree, she is always there and very full of themselves. Very powerful!
Director Kayla Davis seeks 2 female-presenting and 3 male-presenting actors in the one act psychological drama Icarus’s Mother by Sam Shepard, where “a lazy Fourth of July picnic slowly becomes an electric vision of apocalyptic menace.”

Howard: intelligent, manipulative, almost aggressive
Bill: intelligent, manipulative, close friends with Howard
Pat: stubborn, sure of herself
Jill: friendly, kind, fun-loving
Frank: awkward, nerdy, ostracized, sort of a third wheel
Director Sarah Ward seeks three male-identifying and three female-identifying actors in the one act dark comedy Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You by Christopher Durang. Sister Mary Ignatius explains the tenants of Catholicism and, after being interrupted by her former students performing a Christmas pageant, grapples with what it means for someone to be a “good” human.
characters:
Sister Mary Ignatius: Late 60s/early 70s, a catholic nun who is cheerfully stern and deceptively charming
Thomas: 7 years old, a parochial school boy who assists Sister Mary in her lectures. He is innocent and dutiful.
Diane: Late 20s/early 30s, an emotionally cold woman who is having a mental health crisis. She was one of Sister Mary’s former students and plays Mother Mary in the pageant.
Aloysius: Late 20s/early 30s, a cheerful, confident man who is one of Sister Mary’s former students. He plays St. Joseph in the pageant.
Gary: Late 20s/early 30s, a depressed man who is one of Sister Mary’s former students. He plays a camel during the pageant.
Philomena: Late 20s/early 30s, an easygoing who is one of Sister Mary’s former students. She plays a camel during the pageant.
