What is Sakai? — Sakai is Shepherd University’s learning management system. Sakai is an open source and license-free system, costs considerably less than other proprietary systems, and offers comparable functionality and use. It is available to all faculty, employees, and students that have a valid SU account. Sakai provides a flexible and feature-rich environment for teaching, learning, research, and other collaboration
How do I log into Sakai? — Use your Shepherd Username and Password to get into Sakai. To find your Username and Password click Here
Home – Central location for Announcements, Calendar, Personal Resources, Membership, Profile (pic, preferred name, other personal info), Preferences ( Notifications, Hidden Sites)
Sites – list of sites by term code and project sites – check the star to add a site to favorites at the top – organize the favorite sites by drag and dropping under “organize favorites”. Click here for more info on Sites.
Profile Icon – pic , preferences , tutorial – log out. When you log in to Sakai, click on the character in the upper right corner of your screen or click the “Profile” tab in the left tool column.
Click on the blank photo and select “upload a photo”. Add a photo of yourself and save.
Under Basic Info add a nickname and/or write a short “Personal Summary” & save.
You can view your photo and photos of your classmates by visiting the “Roster” on the left column of your Sakai screen.
What can I expect to see in a site? – your class is navigated from the tabs on the left side – syllabus, announcements, resources, dropbox, and messages are typical tools used for communication. Assignments, Tests and Quizzes, and Forums are used for students to submit work.
