SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Wind Symphony will present a variety of wind band literature as interpreted by a new generation of conductors on Tuesday, November 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Frank Arts Center Theater.
Four students, after completing two semesters of conducting, have carefully selected music, studied their scores, written program notes, developed rehearsal strategies, and rehearsed the ensemble in preparation for this eclectic band concert. The conductors are Isaac Cheston, Walkersville, Maryland; Javier Flores, Jr., Frederick, Maryland; Joseph Rupert, Haymarket, Virginia; and Ian Walton, Charles Town, West Virginia.
Selections will include “Americans We” by Henry Fillmore; “Cumberland Cross” by Carl Strommen; “Yorkshire Ballad” by James Barnes; “Mt. Everest” by Rossano Galante; Morten Lauridsen’s “O Magnum Mysterium”; a medley of folksongs by Pierre LaPlante titled “American Riversongs”; and a transcription by William Rhoads from early 20th century American composer Charles Ives titled “Variations on ‘America.’” In addition to the student conductors, Dr. Scott Hippensteel, Shepherd director of bands, will help conduct this evening of band music.
General admission for the concert is $15, $10 for Shepherd faculty, staff, alumni, senior citizens, active-duty military, and ages 18 and under, and free for Shepherd students with a valid Rambler ID. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the ticket office homepage. There is a $1 surcharge for tickets purchased in advance online and for all credit card sales.
Please note the current policy for attendance of live events in the Frank Arts Center. Please sit only in designated rows and leave at least two empty seats between unrelated groups of audience members.
