SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University is preparing to welcome new and returning students to campus during the next week. Classes begin on Monday, August 24, but some students have already begun returning to campus, and throughout next week activities leading up to the start of the semester are planned.
Monday, August 17—The A-team/Emerging Leaders in Service arrive on campus to prepare for the week’s activities, which include helping new students move into residence halls. New faculty orientation will take place in the Scarborough Library and Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Tuesday, August 18—New faculty orientation will continue in the Scarborough Library and Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The 16th annual Day of Service where 100 students and 20 faculty and staff will volunteer at 23 nonprofit sites throughout Jefferson and Berkeley counties, including Goodwill Industries, the Boys and Girls Club of Jefferson County, St. Andrews Mountain Community Center in Jefferson County, the Promise Neighborhood Initative in Martinsburg, and Yankauer Nature Preserve in Berkeley County from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Wednesday, August 19—Orientation, academic advisement, and registration for first-year students will take place.
Thursday, August 20—Orientation, academic advisement, and registration for transfer and readmitted students will be held. Faculty will report for the fall semester, and first-year students will move into the residence halls from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Friday, August 21—Orientation, academic advisement, and registration for all new students will take place. An opening ceremony featuring a Ram Band performance will take place at 8 a.m., with a new student convocation to be held in the Butcher Center at 4 p.m.
