SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Office of Student Community Services and Wishmakers on Campus® is sponsoring a Paw Parade and Party on Sunday, October 30, from noon-3:30 p.m. Proceeds from this event will benefit children in the Make-A-Wish® program.
The Paw Parade will feature a costume contest for pups of all ages and sizes. The cost is $10 to register the first dog and $5 for each additional dog.
On-site registration will begin at noon in front of Stutzman-Slonaker Hall at the intersection of King and High streets. Pre-registered dogs and their owners can check in starting at 12:30 p.m. The parade will start at 1 p.m. at Stutzman-Slonaker and end at the Midway next to the Student Center. Dog lovers will line the parade route to watch and cheer.
At the Midway there will be activities such as a doggie kissing booth, hot beverages, snacks, lawn games, dog pools, and giveaways. Shepherd president Mary J.C. Hendrix and special guests will judge all furry participants for the Best Costume Award. First-, second-, and third-place winners will be announced.
A photo of each participating dog will be displayed on donation jars for a “Paw Parade Royal Pup” fundraiser contest. Attendees will vote by placing a donation or tickets from their online donation in the jar of their choice. The dog with the most donations will win. Photos for pre-registered dogs should be sent to Aly Nazarok, event director, at anazarok@shepherd.edu. Those who plan to register that day should bring a printed photo.
Dogs must be leashed at all times, and Wishmakers on Campus® asks participants only to bring dogs that are comfortable in large crowds and with other dogs.
Donations can be made, and parade participants can pre-register online at the Paw Parade and Party website.
