SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University has named Jonathan Sherman as director of facilities, where he will oversee campus facilities operations, capital projects, maintenance, and long-term infrastructure planning.
“I look forward to supporting the goals of Shepherd University by creating a functional, safe, and supportive environment for all students, staff, faculty, and visitors to the Shepherd campus, and I welcome the opportunity to make the operations more sustainable for the future,” Sherman said.
Sherman joined Shepherd University in December 2025 as assistant director of facilities management, where he supported day-to-day facilities operations and supervised skilled trades, campus service workers, and grounds staff. In this role, he coordinated work orders, assisted with facilities staffing and safety initiatives, monitored building automation systems, and served as the customer-designated representative for architects, engineers, and contractors on capital projects.
Sherman has been involved in completing the Student Center HVAC project, coordinating multiple summer 2026 capital improvement initiatives, and serving as the technical liaison between Shepherd University and the construction team for the new Dining Hall and Multipurpose Building. Several additional major repair projects across campus are at or nearing completion, with others currently in design and estimating phases.
Prior to joining Shepherd, Sherman owned and operated Berkeley Home Technologies in Martinsburg, where he led residential and light commercial construction projects focused on energy efficiency, sustainability, and full lifecycle system design. His professional background includes extensive experience in project management, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, renewable energy technologies, building automation, and code compliance.
Sherman’s earlier career includes leadership and technical roles in facilities-related project coordination, networking systems engineering, and construction management for both private industry and government agencies, including work with the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Marshals Service.
He holds an associate and bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology from West Virginia University Institute of Technology and maintains numerous state licenses and certifications, including master plumber, master electrician, master HVAC technician, and EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handler certification.
Shepherd University is a public liberal arts university offering more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs. Located along the Potomac River in historic Shepherdstown, the University serves students from West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and beyond.
