SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University is pleased to announce the appointment of Tashana Curtis as its next registrar. Curtis will officially begin her role on Monday, February 16, 2026, and will work alongside outgoing Registrar Tracy Seffers for a two-week transition period before Seffers retires on February 27, 2026.
As registrar, Curtis will oversee academic records, registration, and related services essential to student success and institutional integrity. Her leadership will support compliance with University, state, and federal regulations while advancing innovative practices to enhance the student experience.
Curtis brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education administration, specializing in academic records, registration, and student services. She most recently served as associate registrar at the University of Maryland–Baltimore, where she led daily operations for registration and academic records, implemented electronic transcript systems, and strengthened compliance protocols. Her previous roles include registrar at Corning Community College and leadership positions at Howard University, Morrisville State College, Pratt Institute, and Morehouse College.
“Tashana brings extensive experience in records and registration, a strong commitment to student success, and an energetic, innovative spirit that will greatly enrich our campus community,” said Dr. Jack DeRochi, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Shepherd. “We are excited to welcome her to Shepherd University.”
Curtis earned a Bachelor of Science in social sciences from Troy University and holds a graduate certificate in leadership and management from the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC). She is completing a Master of Science in interdisciplinary studies at UMGC. Curtis is an active member of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) and other professional organizations.
Seffers retires after 23 years of dedicated service in higher education, including 20 years as Shepherd’s registrar. During her tenure, she led transformative initiatives such as implementing DegreeWorks, launching electronic transcripts and digital diplomas, and modernizing commencement ceremonies. Her leadership and commitment to student success have left a lasting impact on the University community.
