SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Rebecca Strunk, a senior secondary education major from Hagerstown, Maryland, and a participant in Shepherd University’s TRIO Student Support Services program, was awarded the Mid-Eastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (MEAEOPP) Scholarship and the West Virginia TRIO Association Scholarship for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Strunk has been an active member of the TRIO program at Shepherd since 2019 when she transferred from Hagerstown Community College where she had also participated in TRIO. She is planning to graduate in December 2022.
MEAEOPP is the regional professional association for TRIO and educational opportunity personnel from the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. It awards $1,000 scholarships to a select number of students from TRIO programs in the region.
The West Virginia TRIO Association awards two $500 scholarships to postsecondary TRIO program participants within the state each year. Strunk was awarded these scholarships based on outstanding academic achievement as well as involvement on campus as a student leader and in the community.
The goal of Shepherd’s TRIO Student Support Services is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants by providing opportunities for academic development, assisting students with basic college requirements, and motivating them toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education.
