Public auditions scheduled for spring musical

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s School of Music is hosting auditions for its spring musical, “The Making of Motown: An Original Musical Revue,” on Monday, December 6, and Tuesday, December 7, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Frank Arts Center W.H. Shipley Recital Hall. The auditions are open to the public, with signups starting onsite at 6:30 p.m.

There are roles for singers and singing actors of all ages, genders, races, and abilities. Everyone auditioning must bring a memorized 32-bar cut of a musical theater, Motown, rhythm and blues, or American Songbook selection, including sheet music for the pianist.

This original Motown music revue will feature singers, actors, and musicians exploring the history of Motown music, its artists, and its role and influence on 20th century American culture. The show will feature hit songs like “My Girl,” “Stop in the Name of Love,” and “Midnight Train to Georgia,” among others. It will include a live band, costumes, and some limited movement.

Tech Week, with evening rehearsals, will take place is April 4-7, 2022. The show dates are Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 10, at 3 p.m.
