SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Phaze 2 Gallery is hosting its first show of 2020, “Finders, Buyers, Traders, Makers: Artwork from the Personal Collections of Shepherd University Art Faculty,” Monday, January 27-February 17. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

“‘Finders, Buyers, Traders, Makers: Artwork from the Personal Collections of Shepherd University Art Faculty’ examines the artwork and objects that artists accumulate and keep for themselves,” said Even Boggess, lecturer of art and gallery director. “Faculty members in the Department of Contemporary Art and Theater have been asked to contribute several pieces each from their personal collections. Objects in the show will illustrate by what criteria do artists select the art and objects that surround them, how artists obtain the pieces, and whether artists have different motives for collecting than the non-artist collector.”

Other exhibits planned during the spring semester include:

• February 24-March 12—Student Honors Exhibition, with an award ceremony and reception on February 24 from 4-6 p.m.
• March 19-April 13—Collaborative conceptual painting exhibit by artist Eli Walker, with a reception on March 26 from 4-6 p.m.
• April 14-21—Graphic Design Capstone Exhibit.
• April 24-26th—Competitive Capstone Exhibition.

Gallery hours are Monday-Thursday, noon-7 p.m.; Friday, noon-4:30 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; or by special request. For more information, contact Boggess at eboggess@shepherd.edu.
