SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University will offer a new minor, new emphasis, and two new concentrations when the fall 2019 semester begins.

During its April 18 meeting, Shepherd’s Board of Governors approved a minor in global studies as well as Regents Bachelor of Arts emphasis in global studies. The minor is designed to provide interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and incremental learning opportunities that focus on international issues and conditions. The emphasis aims to prepare R.B.A. students for graduate studies in some fields and for work in a range of post-graduate professions such as government and the nonprofit sector.

Also approved were two new concentrations—health sciences and health promotion—as part of the Bachelor of Science degree in health promotion and exercise science. The health sciences concentration will help prepare students interested in pursuing careers in allied health areas such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, dietetics, physical therapy assistant, and physician’s assistant. The health promotion concentration will help students interested in careers in community outreach, employee wellness, health service management, medical and pharmaceutical sales, work safety, wellness education, health research, and health policy
