Department of Sociology, Criminology, and Criminal Justice to host March 17 lecture with probation officer

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Department of Sociology, Criminology, and Criminal Justice is hosting a virtual Criminal Justice Lecture Series discussion on Wednesday, March 17, at 1:10 p.m. with State of West Virginia Chief Probation Officer Sean Bryner, who will share career insights and discuss current challenges and successes in the field of probation and parole services. This event, which is free and open to the public, will take place via Zoom. Bryner began his career as a parole officer with the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Since April 2004, he has worked as a probation officer for the Supreme Court of Appeals for West Virginia in the 23rd Judicial Circuit, which includes Morgan, Berkeley, and Jefferson counties. Bryner was appointed to the position of chief probation officer in the 23rd Circuit in November 2019. He holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and anthropology and a master’s degree in criminology criminal justice.
