SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Contemporary American Theater Festival is on the New York Times list of 50 essential summer festivals. The list includes festivals from across the country that feature music, dance, and theater that the Times said are “potential cultural pilgrimages.”

The article states, “Shepherdstown might not immediately spring to mind as a breeding ground for new work, but since Ed Herendeen started this festival in 1991, more than 100 new plays, many of them world premieres, have been staged.”

The 25th CATF season runs July 10-Aug. 2 and features five plays: “We Are Pussy Riot” by Barbara Hammond, “World Builders” by Johnna Adams, “Everything You Touch” by Sheila Callaghan, “On Clover Road” by Steven Dietz, and “The Full Catastrophe” by Michael Weller.
