SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Community Music at Shepherd announces a new vision for the Shepherd Youth Chorus (SYC). Beginning this semester, SYC will offer a completely free and non-auditioned musical experience for all children aged 8-14 in West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia. The Chorus invites children of all abilities, backgrounds, and experience levels to join at any time.
As participants in SYC, students will sing, play, move, and create. They will learn and perform popular, folk, and choral music from diverse cultures and styles; play singing games; participate in folk dances and creative movement; and write, arrange, and produce original music.
SYC will meet Wednesdays from 6:15-7:30 p.m. beginning January 11 in the Frank Arts Center, Room 125. SYC will perform a season-end concert on April 26.
Students can register in person on January 11 or by email before that date by contacting SYC Director Austin Showen or Community Music Coordinator Heather Wilson.
