In response to the June 29, 2023, Supreme Court decision banning Affirmative Action
Shepherd University does not take race or ethnicity or country of origin into consideration at all in evaluating applications for admission to the university, nor as to any limited admissions programs of study. As a public regional West Virginia institution, we are committed to providing access to all applicants who satisfy the State’s minimum standards of academic preparation for baccalaureate education.
Shepherd values each admission application we receive. We look for merit and for how we can give our students maximum opportunities for their success.
In our admission process, we take a totality approach—we are blind to gender and race.
We accept students whom we feel have a sufficient academic background that will allow them to achieve success in their academic endeavors.
During the admission application review process, we review records of high school and/or college academic performance.
No student should be turned down for admission if they have a scholastic record that suggests they will succeed in their academic endeavors.
