During the weeks of Academic Advisement, usually starting in October and March, students should obtain a Schedule of Classes online via the Registrar’s Office. This student should also work with two copies of the Registration Worksheet to be used with the RAIL (Remote Access Information Line) WEB registration system. One Worksheet is for the student, and one is for the student’s advisor. WEB Registration Worksheets are not available from the Registrar’s Office. All degree-seeking students must meet with their Academic Advisor prior to registering for classes via RAIL. Students will secure a Term Personal Identification Number (PIN) from their advisor after carefully working with their advisor to make a class schedule for the following semester. If a worksheet is lost after the Term PIN has been issued, students must see their advisor for an authorized copy.
Before the advising conference, students should write the course request number (CRN) , subject/course number, section, credit, and days/time on the Registration Worksheet and on the advisor’s copy of the worksheet using the online information in the Schedule of Classes. During the advising conference, the advisor should check the student’s choices, discuss the student’s progress toward meeting all requirements of his/her degree, and perhaps suggest alternative choices when appropriate. After the advisor has approved the schedule of classes, the student should sign and date the advisor’s copy of the Worksheet and leave it with the advisor. Advisors should check to see that alternative course or section requests are included on the student’s Worksheet before releasing the Term PIN to the student.
Students may use any personal computer to access the RAIL WEB Registration system and should do so during the assigned time given with the Term PIN. Students may, however, access the system any time after their assigned time. Personal computers are available on campus in the Scarborough Library and in the Computer Labs in Knutti Hall, White Hall, the Byrd Science Center, the Butcher Center, and the Creative Arts Center.
