Chemistry Society/Gamma Sigma Epsilon

CHEMISTRY SOCIETY

Shepherd University hosts both a student chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Pi Delta chapter of Gamma Sigma Epsilon (GSE), the national chemistry honors society.

The Chemistry Society provides an opportunity for students of science to become better acquainted with other students and the faculty, to foster a love for chemistry, as well as create a genuine support system for students in the sciences. We have engaged in campus experiment days, sciences theme field trips, and are very active in campus events such as Relay for Life and Homecoming.

Gamma Sigma Epsilon is a national honors society.  It was founded in 1919 at Davidson College and expanded to over 70 active chapters over the following century.  Chapters are designated by two Greek letters, the first letter to indicate the state in which it is located, and the second the number of the chapter in that state.  In 1931 the “fraternity” went co-ed and became an “honor society”.
