Upcoming Auditions

She Kills Monsters Auditions: January 10, 2024

The Contemporary Theater Studies Program announces auditions for She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen on Wednesday, January 10 in the Marinoff Theater. There will be two audition blocks: 4:30-6:00pm and 7:00-8:30pm. Auditionees only need to attend one of the two sessions, but should plan to be present for the full hour and a half. Director kb saine seeks a minimum of 6 female-presenting and 4 male-presenting actors, and an indeterminate number of actors of any gender to play evil cheerleaders, monsters, and dragons. All roles are open to students of all ages, races, and abilities. Faculty, staff, students, and community members are all welcome to audition; those with dance team/cheerleading experience, and actors with physical disabilities are specifically encouraged to audition.

She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes after the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. It is a high-energy dramatic comedy filled with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, badass women warriors, and 90s pop culture that plays homage to the geek and warrior within us all.

Auditionees should prepare one 30-90 second monologue of their choice, and should be prepared for physical warmups and movement-based improvisation. Theater majors are required to bring headshots and resumes; others may chose to bring materials if they have them. Actors may choose to attend either of the two audition blocks; no appointments are necessary. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement.

Rehearsals will be held Monday through Thursday, 3:30-6:30pm, with some evening and weekend rehearsals closer to opening night. Performances will be April 5-7 and 12-14.
