Shepherd Names Pérez Assistant Provost for Student Academic Enrichment

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WVShepherd University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Michelle Pérez as assistant provost for student academic enrichment. 

In this role, Pérez will provide collaborative leadership and strategic direction for student academic support, career readiness, and enrichment programs. Her responsibilities will include oversight of key areas that support the student experience, including TRIO Student Support Services and Upward Bound, Academic Advising, Career Services, Experiential Education, and Academic Support and Transfer Pathways. 

“I’m excited to help elevate the student experience by expanding experiential learning opportunities and strengthening academic support in ways that promote both success and belonging,” said Pérez. “I look forward to continuing to grow the collaborations between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to continue to create intentional, student-centered pathways. My goal is to ensure every student feels supported, challenged, and connected, hallmarks of what it means to be part of the Ram Fam.” 

Pérez brings more than two decades of experience in higher education leadership, most recently serving as executive director of retention and student success at Rollins College. She previously held senior roles at Campbell University and Millersville University, where she led initiatives to improve student persistence, retention, and holistic development. Her expertise spans strategic planning, advising, and experiential learning. 

“Dr. Pérez brings a wealth of experience to this position,” said Dr. Jack DeRochi, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Shepherd. “Her broad perspective on advising, the first-year experience, retention, and student success overall are impressive, and we look forward to welcoming her innovative spirit to Shepherd University.” 

Pérez earned her Doctor of Education in educational leadership and technology from Dowling College, a Master of Science in higher educational leadership from Florida State University, and a Bachelor of Science in physical education from Manhattan College. She will officially join the University on Monday, February 23, 2026.
