SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Martinsburg Center is hosting naloxone training on Tuesday, February 14, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at 261 Aikins Center in Martinsburg. The training is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
Stephanie Stout, West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Office of Drug Control Policy Region 2 coordinator, and Erin Gaertner, Jobs & Hope West Virginia transition agent, will train participants on how to identify an overdose and administer naloxone via a nasal spray.
Stout and Gaertner will also share information on what steps to take during an overdose emergency before, during, and after the administration of naloxone, including how to contact emergency services. They will also explain the Good Samaritan law that allows those in an emergency to assist if they are operating under good faith.
Naloxone, also distributed under nasal spray brand names Narcan® and Kloxxado®, and injectable Zimhi™, is used to reverse an opioid overdose.
