SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Throughout this semester, Dr. Jim Broomall’s Battlefield Preservation class has been visiting historic sites operated by various groups such as National Park Service and Jefferson County Historic Landmarks Commission.

The class visited the historic Fort Ritchie Army base in Cascade, Maryland, where a private organization is spearheading a rehabilitation effort. Broomall said it is a particularly interesting place for the students to visit given the commercial dimension—the redevelopment will be revenue generating. The students talked with Landon Grove, museum director and curator at Ritchie Revival, about the site’s history, future plans for museum and archival space, and continued student-based opportunities with Shepherd.
