Civil War center opens registration for October 7-10 seminar

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s George Tyler Moore (GTM) Center for the Study of the Civil War is taking registration for its October 7-10 Civil War and American Society Seminar, “Cavalry’s Crucible: Civil War Comes to Horse and Hunt Country.” Tuition is $485 for a package that includes meals and transportation, and $310 for a package that includes transportation only.

The seminar will examine the Civil War in Loudoun County, Virginia, in 1863 and 1864. Participants will visit sites associated with the Gettysburg Campaign and Mosby’s Confederacy.

Speakers include Anne Marie Chirieleison, executive director of the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum; Dennis E. Frye, retired chief historian at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park and author of 11 books and 109 articles; Richard Treat Gillespie, retired executive director of the Mosby Heritage Area Association (now the Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area); and Travis Shaw, director of education for the Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area.
