SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Society for Creative Writing in the Department of English and Modern Languages has released the newest installment of the AT HOME WITH POETRY series. This reading features Mahieddine Ouafi, an emerging poet and student from Algeria.

Ouafi is also a short fiction writer and civil engineering student at the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumedien, Algiers. His passion for English literature and creative writing was ignited in 2019. His writing has been featured in the Twiza project, and he is a member of the Algerian Black Pearl writing program.

“I hope you enjoyed watching the video as much as I enjoyed filming it,” Ouafi said. “I apologize if I looked nervous or butchered your lovely language. It was the first time I read pieces of mine in front of a camera. I send all my love to the community.”

“I’m so happy to be sharing Ouafi’s wonderful poetry with our audience,” said Sadie Shorr-Parks, Society for Creative Writing director. “In his reading, you will see that he writes in both free verse and more traditional fixed forms, such as sonnets. It is a treat to hear the writing of such a talented young poet.”

Mahieddien Ouafi’s reading is available now and can be found on the Society for Creative Writing website.
