Eleven professors promoted, four granted tenure

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University has promoted 11 professors and awarded tenure to four of them effective the 2021-2022 academic year.

Those promoted are Dr. Ben Bankhurst to associate professor of history, Dr. Larry Daily to professor of psychology, Dr. Mary Hancock to professor of nursing, Dr. Dori Hargrove to associate professor of education, Dr. Stacey Kendig to professor of recreational studies,  Dr. Matt Kushin to professor of communication, Monica Larson to professor of communication, Dr. Carrie Messenger to professor of English, Dr. James Pate to associate professor of English, Dr. Stephanie Slocum-Schaffer to professor of political science, and Dr. Richard Stevens to professor of psychology.

Those receiving tenure are Bankhurst, Hargrove, Pate, and Dr. Kelly Watson Huffer, associate professor of nursing education.

“Congratulations are due to all these individuals for the contributions they’ve made and that they continue to make to the university, the communities they serve, and to their profession,” said Dr. Scott Beard, provost. “I would like to also thank the members of the College Promotion and Tenure Committees for their contributions to the wellbeing of the university through their service.”
