New Student Welcome and Convocation is an important component in becoming Ram Ready! Knowing what resources are available to you and how to access them will be critical to your success. At Shepherd, your participation in New Student Welcome and Convocation is essential to learning about these resources that will assist ALL students new to Shepherd in making a smooth transition to the community.

New Student Welcome: Thursday, August 20, 2026 through Saturday, August 22, 2026

Throughout New Student Welcome, you will have the opportunity to meet your peers, meet your faculty advisors and professors who will help you to succeed, and listen to key staff present on vital information.

2026 New Student Welcome & Convocation Schedule

Convocation Ceremony: Friday, August 21, 2026

Check-in & Ram Band Performance begin at 8:15 am.
Ceremonies will begin at 9:00 am.

Convocation is a tradition at Shepherd University where all incoming students will attend a formal ceremony marking your official entrance into the University. Convocation signifies the beginning of a student’s educational journey and by which they become members of the Shepherd University community of scholars.

IMPORTANT NOTE: In the weeks leading up to the first day of classes, you will be contacted by Annie Lewin, Director of Title IX to complete the required online, interactive, and self-paced training called, Culture of Respect. More information will be sent to your Shepherd email.
