SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University has signed a series of agreements with Marshall University that will assist students wishing to pursue advanced degrees in a variety of fields, as well as specific articulations to Marshall’s Edwards School of Medicine and the School of Pharmacy.

“We have been working strategically to not only identify pathways to Shepherd through dual-enrollment programs for high school students and 2+2 agreements for community college students, but also pathways for our students’ next steps beyond Shepherd,” said Dr. Scott Beard, provost. “In addition to the medical and pharmacy school pathways, our general agreement with Marshall will help us identify, develop, and implement cooperative projects that will enhance the curricular and co-curricular experience of students enrolled in both institutions.”

“When students come to Shepherd, they feel that they may only have one path toward a career in the health sciences,” said Dr. Robert Warburton, dean, College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. “By working closely with the faculty at Marshall to develop programs and requirements, we have established multiple paths for the future success of Shepherd students in the health sciences, thereby giving them more options.”

“We hope to create and promote intercollegiate co-curricular exchanges and create advantageous academic pathways that prepare students for admission to graduate programs,” Beard said. “There can even be the opportunity for co-taught courses and potentially joint faculty appointments. We are very excited by the opportunities with our friends at Marshall University.”

For interested and qualified students, the medical and pharmaceutical school agreements outline specific Shepherd course and admissions requirements such as GPA and test scores. They also offer the opportunity to shadow and connect with Marshall University faculty, alumni, and students in person and through the use of ZOOM video platform lectures, as well as get advice and mentoring to provide opportunities for an early admission decision.
