Hunter Pearson, Poolesville, Maryland, will be in Japan from March until August taking several economics courses and a Japanese language class. The Shepherd business major will study at Osaka University of Commerce in Japan.
“I’m studying abroad because I want to see more of the world, as well as gain new perspectives of both culture and business,” Pearson said. “While I’m there, I hope that I can meet new people, gain new experiences, and learn new things. I’m really looking forward to the food in particular, so I plan on spending a lot of time checking out different eateries.”
Pearson also hopes spending a semester at Osaka will help him reach at least a basic conversational level of Japanese and help him pass the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test that he plans to take later this year.
“I am a little worried about the language barrier, but I guess it is a good incentive for me to study the language more,” he said. “I hope that this experience will push me to make changes in my life for the better and teach me skills that I can apply to both my professional and personal life in the future.”
Shepherd has established partnerships with five overseas universities, Osaka University of Commerce, Anáhuac University in Mexico, Nanhua University in Taiwan, University of Nicosia in Cyprus, and the University of the West of Scotland. Enrolling at a partner university offers one of the most affordable ways for students to study abroad.
