Dual enrollment information night attracts full auditorium at EOB Hall

The dual enrollment information night for Jefferson County high school students December 11 at Erma Ora Byrd Hall attracted a full auditorium of interested students and their family members. The popular program allows high school students to attend Shepherd classes and receive college and high school credit simultaneously. Morning and evening classes for Berkeley County students are offered at the Martinsburg Center, with bus service provided by Berkeley County Schools to and from the center for students taking morning classes.

Shepherd supports local holiday causes

Students, faculty, and staff helped make the holidays special for those who might not otherwise receive much. Shepherd’s Office of Student Community Services collected donations for the Salvation Army, Operation Christmas Teen, Candy Cane Express at T.A. Lowery Elementary School, and Berkeley Senior Services. Shepherd filled 50 stockings for children up to age 12 and fulfilled requests on 11 angel tags for the Salvation Army, collected donated items and about $400 cash for Candy Cane Express and Operation Christmas Teen, and collected food items for Berkeley Senior Services to provide holiday meals for seniors.

President Mary J.C. Hendrix hosted a holiday gift drive to benefit Berkeley County students who are part of the Martinsburg Initiative, an effort sponsored by the Martinsburg Police Department to stem the opioid addiction problem by identifying and trying to eliminate the basic causes of drug abuse in at-risk families.
