Cater announces retirement after 31 seasons at Shepherd; McCook named head coach
The retirement of head football coach Monte Cater, Shepherd’s all-time winningest football coach, was announced January 24. Named head coach in 1987, Cater boasted a 245-93-1 record in his 31 seasons and led the Rams to 16 conference titles while earning 12 conference coach of the year honors. Ernie McCook, assistant head coach/offensive coordinator, was named the 13th head coach of the Shepherd football team. McCook has coached at Shepherd from 1999-2008 and 2010-present. He has previously coached at Liberty University, Frostburg State University, Wesley College, and Susquehanna University. Shepherd hosts the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce
Nearly 50 members of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce met for their monthly lunch meeting at Shepherd’s Applied Business Lab on Thursday, January 25. Attendees heard remarks from President Mary J.C. Hendrix, Dr. Ben Martz, and Holly Morgan Frye about the economic impact of Shepherd University and the new opportunities available through the business lab such as the creation of on campus internships. Department of Social Work is hosting two international scholars
Shepherd is hosting two international scholars this semester. Dr. Abdulwahab Al-Dhafiri, professor of social work from Kuwait University, and José “Pepe” Cernicchiaro Guadarrama, coordinator of social commitment from Anáhuac University, Mexico, are on campus to collaborate with the Department of Social Work.
