Masterworks to hold auditions, announces schedule

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Masterworks Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Erik Reid Jones, will be holding auditions for the 2013-14 season. Auditions are open to everyone and consist of vocal exercises. Singers are not required to prepare a piece in advance. Anyone interested in being part of the group should attend the rehearsal of the ensemble on Monday, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the McCoy Rehearsal Hall in the Frank Center.

The 130-member vocal ensemble, made up of Shepherd vocal students and community members, presents two full-length concerts per year of great masterpieces from the choral literature as well as appearances at the annual Holiday Gala Concert.

The first concert of the season will feature Franz Joseph Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and George Frideric Handel’s Coronation Anthems, “Zadok the Priest,” and “My Heart is Indicting.” Featuring guest conductor Gregory Shook, the works will be performed with full orchestra and soloists, on Saturday, November 9 at 8 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, Maryland, and Sunday, November 10 at 7 p.m. at the Frank Center Theater at Shepherd.

The chorale will also appear at the annual Holiday Gala Concert at the Frank Center on Saturday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, December 8 at 3 p.m. On Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 7 p.m. the Masterworks Chorale will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s Mass in B minor with full orchestra and guest soloists soprano Brooke Evers, mezzo soprano Melanie Regan, tenor Joe Regan, and baritone Rob Tudor, at the Frank Center Theater.
