i am the elements

aimee george is an artist and educator native to the Shenandoah Valley. She teaches all manner of photography and computer imagery at Shepherd University where she also serves as the Coordinator for the Photography and Computer Imagery Program. An alumna of Shepherd, aimee elatedly returned to the landscape that first shaped her creative roots. Her work moves between traditional, alternative and historic photographic processes, expanding into digital imaging, with a deep focus on sustainable, plant- based methods drawn directly from the natural world.

Rooted in her Appalachian heritage and Ayurvedic practice, aimee’s art explores, the delicate yet extreme, cycles and contrasts of life—light | shadow // growth | decay // stillness | movement // expansion | contraction, and the ways these forces mirror human emotional and physical experience—desire | aversion // love | fear // masculine | feminine // pain | pleasure // creation | destruction. The work examines the intricacies of natural systems and human connection, honoring cycles of transformation and the unseen energies that bind all living things. Through interdisciplinary practices, she cultivates a dialogue between earth, body, and spirit, creating imagery that is both a reflection and a meditation on interconnectedness and the subtle yet profound rhythms of life.

About Us:

The Phaze 2 Gallery is a cultural contact point between the Shepherdstown community and the outside world of contemporary art. We primarily exhibit emerging artists who are working to elevate the way our visitors think and see by challenging the popular concepts and traditions of their disciplines. Our intimate, versatile gallery venue offers artists the freedom to experiment and refine new approaches in their work before moving on to larger exhibition sites. As an instructional tool for the Department of Contemporary Art and Theater of Shepherd University, the Phaze 2 Gallery provides a discursive arena for our students, exhibiting artists, community, and art faculty.
