Early Childhood Music Program
Bring the youngest children the joy of music at an early age! 
MUSICAL DISCOVERIES-Ages 18 months – 3 years old (with parent/caregiver). All classes meet at the Frank Arts Center at Shepherd University.
This in-person interactive class for children and caregivers will introduce the young student to the rudiments of music. The class will explore songs, echo songs, creative movement, rhymes and finger-play. We are going to play a large variety of rhythm instruments (such as drums, rhythm sticks, wood blocks, triangles and many more).
Ms. Frauke Higgins has a Masters Degree in Music Education and is an experienced early childhood music educator and piano instructor. She has taught classes to young students since 1990.
All session 1 participants must be registered by January 8th, and receive a confirmation email.

YOUNG CHILDREN’S MUSIC -Ages 4 years – 6 years old (with parent/caregiver). All classes meet at the Frank Arts Center at Shepherd University.
This popular class is designed to prepare the child for later instrumental studies or voice lessons. The group will play wood, metal and shaker instruments, large Orff instruments, sing songs and echo songs. They will develop their listening skills (ear training) and will work with creative movement and circle dances. Younger children love to observe and copy older children. Older children will help to lead the group in musical activities, games and songs. Everybody will have fun!

* NEW CLASS* MUSIC MAKERS Ages 6 years – 8 years old. All classes meet at the Frank Arts Center at Shepherd University.
This engaging, hands-on class introduces children to the fundamentals of music through movement, rhythm, and exploration.
Students will be introduced to the piano and xylophone, developing an early understanding of melody, rhythm, pitch, and musical patterns through playful activities and guided instruction. Drawing from Dalcroze Eurhythmics, the class will incorporate creative movement and rhythmic exercises to help children experience and understand musical concepts through their bodies before applying them to instruments.
Through singing, movement, rhythm games, improvisation, and instrumental exploration, students will build confidence and develop foundational musicianship skills in a fun and supportive environment. The class is designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, coordination, and a joyful connection with music while preparing students for continued instrumental study.
