SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Scarborough Society of Shepherd University will sponsor a program featuring novelist and Shepherd University adjunct instructor Alan Gibson, Tuesday, October 18 at 7 p.m., in the Scarborough Library Reading Room. Gibson will discuss the process behind his thriller, “The Dead of Winter,” which takes places on a fictionalized version of Jefferson County’s Ridgefield Farm and Orchard. The event is free and open to the public. A dessert reception will follow the lecture.
Gibson received his bachelor’s degree from Washington & Lee University and a master’s degree from Georgetown University. He worked briefly as a copywriter, which led to a career in the advertising industry. Gibson currently serves as an adjunct instructor in the department of English and Modern Languages at Shepherd University and is the chairman of Potluck, a social media startup that he began with two college friends.
In his life outside of Shepherd University, Gibson manages Ridgefield Farm and Orchard, where he lives with his partner, Scott Beard, and their two dogs, Archie and Jack. Ridgefield Farm opens to the public in autumn, when it becomes a pumpkin patch complete with hayrides, a corn maze, and a chainsaw or two. Gibson notes that any similarity to “The Dead of Winter” ends there.
