Welcome to the Office of Admissions

As the Office of Admissions director, I would like to welcome you to Shepherd University! Shepherd University is the meeting place of a world you know and a world you'll have the time of your life experiencing. The campus is situated on 323 acres in historic Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Convenient to the cultural and educational resources of Washington, D.C., and Baltimore and to the natural resources of the Shenandoah Valley.

Shepherd is a coeducational, state-supported, four year university with a strong liberal arts emphasis in its curriculum. The university was established in 1871 and currently serves approximately 4,800 students. This size, however, does not prohibit us from offering small classes for a more personalized educational experience. With offerings in more than 75 fields, our average student-to-faculty ratio remains 19:1.

Campus life is active with 11 NCAA Division II athletic teams, dozens of campus organizations, and popular weekend events. One day you might find yourself bicycling on a country road, rafting down a river, or cheering on the football team. The next day might find you in a crowd in the gallery of the U.S. Senate, interning at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Research Laboratory at Bardane, or apprenticing with the Contemporary American Theater Festival. But that's not surprising. At Shepherd University, opportunity is your neighbor.

I encourage you and your family to visit Shepherd so that we can show you around and talk with you about your college plans!
