Women’s Studies program to host February 27 panel on women, children’s health

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Gender and Women’s Studies program will present a panel discussion titled “It’s Not a Moment, It’s a Movement: Women and Children’s Health in West Virginia” on Monday, February 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Panel participants include Penny Womeldorff, project manager of West Virginia Healthy Start; Emily Thompson, field organizer of Planned Parenthood West Virginia; and Nichole Greene, development director of West Virginia FREE. Each panelist will discuss the goals and outcomes of her program and about internships and volunteer opportunities for college students.

West Virginia Healthy Start/Helping Appalachian Parents and Infants provides comprehensive, integrated services to those women, infants, and families at highest risk. West Virginia FREE is a reproductive health, rights, and justice organization that works to improve education on reproductive options, increase access to affordable birth control, reduce teen pregnancy, improve adolescent health, and protect personal decision making. Planned Parenthood provides comprehensive reproductive and complementary health care services, educational programs, and promotes research and the advancement of technology in reproductive health care.
