Supporting Shepherd Athletics
The Foundation has established special gift programs to support Shepherd athletics. The most popular is the Buy a Stadium Brick program. More than 500 engraved bricks have been placed in the stadium wall north and south of the press box. Other naming opportunities include plaques for a stadium seat, field house lockers and showers, a seat section, and a goalpost. Click here for the Special Gifts Form.

Completed projects

The Scarborough Library
Dedication of the renovated Ruth Scarborough Library was held October 9, 2003. This major project significantly increases the library's functionality, as well as its appearance. The Foundation's sale of bricks and engraved plaques for chairs, tables and carrels raised $75,000 for the library expansion project. The brick wall located on the south side of the building is part of a plaza that also features a bronze plaque of the Shepherd logo, four benches, and stepped risers that create a semicircular stage for outdoor presentations. The creation of the Scarborough Society in 2002 provides a way to endow and strengthen the Shepherd University Library system by generating annual membership dues. The Foundation has been instrumental in managing contributions and providing assistance with Society events. The addition to the library includes the Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies which houses the distinguished senator's papers and other materials that are available to students and community members. The Foundation administers the investments and accounts for the center, which is under the direction of Dr. Ray Smock.

The Kenneth J. Boone Field House
Phase II of the Campaign for Shepherd Ram Stadium Expansion was completed in September 2003 with the dedication of a facilities building to house men's and women's locker rooms and training facilities, as well as coaching offices. The 7,000-square foot building is located at the south end of the playing field. The Foundation helped raise $500,000 toward the cost of the building. The major contributor and building namesake was Kenneth J. Boone '76. The Foundation's "Buy a Brick" program is ongoing. The funds raised from the sale of bricks helped fund the stadium expansion project and will continue to support the college's athletic program. More than 450 bricks have been purchased so far and have been placed in the walls on both the north and south sides of the press box. Other special gift programs include placing name plaques on stadium seats, seat sections, goal posts and field house lockers and showers. For further information about purchasing a stadium brick or other name plaques, contact the Foundation Office at 304/876-5391.
