SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s FM radio station, WSHC (89.7), recently added the NPR afternoon news program “All Things Considered” to its daily schedule from 4-6 p.m., completing a yearlong transition into public radio programming. On Saturdays, “All Things Considered” airs from 5-6 p.m.
“All Things Considered” was the first news program produced by National Public Radio in 1971 and has grown into the nation’s second highest-rated program, trailing only NPR’s “Morning Edition,” heard each weekday morning on WSHC from 6-9 a.m. and weekends from 8-10 a.m.
WSHC General Manager Mike McGough said that broadcasting of the two iconic news shows has been made possible by a partnership between the Shepherd University and West Virginia Public Broadcasting, extending the network’s primary coverage to the easternmost corner of the state. In addition to the two NPR news shows, WSHC also carries West Virginia state news and public affairs programs, including “Inside Appalachia,” which airs Sundays at 7 a.m.
McGough said the news programming creates a framework for Shepherd student shows, which include sports, talk, and music programs. WSHC’s 950-watt FM signal serves the Martinsburg and Charles Town-Ranson markets in West Virginia and Washington County in Maryland.
