Crystal Wilkinson - Events | 2019 Applachian Heritage Writer in Residence

: Crystal Wilkinson selects winners of WV Fiction Competition, writes critical reviews for finalists, participates in an interview to be posted on the website, works with the AHWIR Committee on constructing the website and teaching tools which become a scholarly resource for teachers, answers interview questions that will go online and into the anthology, and completes other tasks concerning the Appalachian Heritage Writer-in-Residence project.

7:30 p.m.: Byrd Legislative Center, Shepherdstown Film Society Screening of Beloved; film by Oprah Winfrey, Reynolds Hall, Discussion leader Dr. Julia Sandy, Department of History.

All Day: Day-long Appalachian Heritage Festival, with demonstrations, cultural and musical events, and evening Concert at Frank Center auditorium.

3-5 p.m.: Writers Workshop with Karen Spears Zacharias, "Unraveling the Novelists Secrets," Contact Four Seasons Bookstore for details, 304.876.3486.
7 p.m.: Mama Just Won’t Accept This: Mental Illness in the Black Community, with Dr. Alfiee M. Breland-Noble, Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies.

7 p.m.: Byrd Center, A Celebration of Appalachian Storytellers, Anthology of Appalachian Writers, Volume XI, the event sponsored by the WV Center for the Book and Shepherd Foundation.
8 p.m.: Photographic Art Exhibit and Anthology Reception in Scarborough Reading Room.

9:30 a.m.: Book Discussion with Martinsburg High, Jefferson High, Washington High, and Spring Mills High School Honors Students at Martinsburg High School.
11 a.m.: Crystal Wilkinson Reading at Martinsburg Public Library.
12:30 p.m.: Discussion at the Bavarian Inn with the Shepherdstown Library Giving Circle.
7 p.m.: The Writing Life, with Crystal Wilkinson, Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies (writer discusses her work, the writing process, her journey toward authorship and publication).

Noon: Book Discussion with Senior Moments Book Club.
3-4:30 p.m.: Writers Master Class with African American Poet and Fiction Writer Crystal Wilkinson, at Byrd Center.
5:30 p.m.: Dinner at the Press Room with Fiction Competition Winners.
8 p.m.: Scarborough Society Lecture Keynote and Awards Ceremony (Crystal Wilkinson receives the Appalachian Heritage Writer’s Award and presents the Scarborough Keynote address, EOB Auditorium, followed by reception and book signing. The WV Fiction Competition awards will also be presented by Wilkinson).
9 p.m.: Reception in Byrd Atrium.
