SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University is hosting a West Virginia Robotics Alliance FIRST LEGO League (FLL) competition on Saturday, November 11, in the Student Center and is looking for volunteers to serve as judges and referees.
With a $50 entry fee, up to 16 FLL robotics teams in grades 4-8 will compete for the opportunity to be in the West Virginia FLL state championship December 2 in Fairmont. Judges will be responsible for evaluating project design, robot design, and how well each team emulates FLL core values. Referees will oversee table competitions. Students in grades K-4 will also participate in a junior expo that will take place that day.
Using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology, the teams will be encouraged to build, test, and program a robot to solve a real-world problem. The theme of this year’s competitions is hydrodynamics, so each team’s project must be related to finding, transporting, using, or disposing of water.
The event will be free and open for the public to observe starting with table competitions in the Storer Ballroom at 1 p.m. through the closing ceremony.
